TikTok Outage, ASMR, Bo Burnham’s “Inside,” Squishmallows and more!

Dena and Melissa begin the show discussing the TikTok outage on July 6. There was a glitch where they asked you to input your birthday then the app would crash. Melissa thought she was being kicked out because she was too old for TikTok. Dena noticed her follow and like counts were off.

Then we talk about the buffering trend, featuring a video from @ourfilipinograndma. Melissa notes that this trend uses a song from Bo Burnham’s Netflix special “Inside.” In fact, a lot of new TikTok trends feature songs from Bo…and The Backyardigans, as @tylershealthylife explains.

Dena explains ASMR on TikTok, mentioning accounts @snackshackslimes and @Crackingclayasmrr. The basically crack hard shells to reveal clay underneath. It unleashes a strong urge from your core. We love a Duet from @averagefashionblogger.

Melissa brings up Munchausen TikTok, featuring @adaptivekate and @ren.aissancewoman. They both explain what happened to them, how they cope with it, and answer questions from curious fans.

Dena talks about the Charli D’Amelio and Squishmallows controversy, with videos from @jordynwoodknow, @thebrandwagon, and @clawcraziness. Essentially, Charli got these stuff animals slash pillows, but apparently got the “ugly” ones, and now the Squishmallow community is mad at her? I don’t know. This is not our side of TikTok for obvious reasons.

What is our side of TikTok? Parodies of Bee Tok. There are some hilarious videos making fun of Bee Tok, we feature @igorbieski and @drewbies.zoo.

Melissa keeps seeing Stitches with this video of a baby doll hitting its head on furniture, she highlights a favorite from @littlefish_7. Children are best used as prop for funny TikToks.

Dena loves a trend from @katiecoogan8 where you show off a terrible picture of yourself that your friends won’t let go of. We have one in our friend group of Dena lol.

Mini tomato tarts with @cookingwithpierre and pasta chips with @chefcuso round out our food trends this week. We need an airfryer to make the pasta chips, if anyone has one can you please make us chips?

And we welcome celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Leslie Jones to TikTok. We think they both have potential to make great content once they get the hang of the app.
