August TikTok Trends with BizTok Host Kyle Kaplanis

Dena and Melissa welcome Kyle Kaplanis, host of the podcast “BizTok for TikTok” and TikTok manager, to the podcast this week!

Kyle helped his daughter Jay Vincent (@jaydecandance) grow her TikTok to over 2.4 million followers and exclusively manages two TikTokers on the Top 10 Global List (@justmaiko and @spencerx). He is also starting the first ever Home and Garden division on TikTok with Winni Designs (@winnidesigns). He tells us about starting a podcast, falling in love with TikTok, and advising other creators.

August 2021 TikTok Trends

Bo Burnham songs are still trending. This time it’s a three-part mix from “Inside.” Creators use the audio to say they have 3 looks or moods and that’s it.

The photo crop challenge is also trending this month. We love one where they hit a chandelier while trying to hit the photo boxes.

Reba is trending on TikTok. Creators use the lyrics about a single mom working three jobs and being a survivor over mundane things. The best comes from @iconaklast.

“Is he hot or…?” is another trend on TikTok where users ask if things someone does is hot or just factual. CUNY (@cunyedu) is killing it with this trend and a bunch of others. It’s shocking to everyone that this is the official CUNY account. But it’s also genius. We dive deeper into this with Kyle but, getting a few college-aged women to run your account rather than traditional marketers is probably the smartest thing you can do for branding on TikTok.

There’s also Family Guy audio trending on TikTok where Peter reveals he didn’t like The Godfather as they’re about to die. Creators use it to tell something you’d think would be good but they didn’t like.
